Pain Points: JTECH, the world’s largest onsite paging company and pioneer of silent paging systems for restaurants, serves millions of diners and clearly saw where things were breaking down: long admission and seating waits, no advance notice when menu items sold out, staff who often needed a manager’s help, frequent order mistakes, and an overall tense service atmosphere. To tackle these issues head-on, they designed a wearable paging device that syncs with a tablet app instantly alerting staff to customer needs, updating item availability in real time, and streamlining communication so teams can deliver a smoother, more responsive dining experience.
Goals & Objectives Overview: Our goals are to deliver an all in one communication and task management solution that enables seamless two way messaging between staff and managers, including discreet alerts to individuals or entire teams, while connecting kitchen and servers, simplifying task assignment, logging and data delivery to both staff and managers, automating notifications and completion acknowledgments, optimizing labor costs and ensuring real time alerts reach staff on the floor.
Process: I started by reviewing the project requirements and researching existing market solutions I could leverage. Based on my research and data provided by PM, I ran several workshops sessions with product manager to prioritize key features and interactions and be aligned on proposed solution. I activity worked with project manager (hiring client) to review design and interaction on weekly basis, validated design with several team members to ensure timely delivery.
My Role & Impact: As lead UX designer (Independent role) on the Linkwear tablet product, I managed the entire design lifecycle from drafting the project scope and requirements to identifying improvement areas, leading brainstorming sessions, and creating wireframes through to final deliverables. I collaborated closely with product leaders, project managers, developers, and UX researchers to keep everyone aligned on goals and research initiatives. I also worked hand in hand with the project manager to define expectations and secure approval for user research.
